Senior School
Life in the Senior School inevitably focuses on academic work and success. As a non-selective International School we are proud to regularly top the Cornish League Tables with our outstanding GCSE results. However, we also value and focus on developing students as independent, confident, caring and active young people.
We believe every young person can succeed and we devote ourselves to improving student achievement, through high quality teaching and student support. A strong but caring ethos prevails in our school. Students are treated as individuals who have huge potential and whose achievements are recognised and celebrated.
We offer a wide range of subjects to stimulate academic and personal development. Subjects include: English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, French, Bilingual French, German, Spanish, Chinese, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography, Art & Design, Design Technology, ICT, Drama, Music, Performing Arts, Psychology, Physical Education, Religious Philosophy & Ethics, PSCHE and Theory of Knowledge.

We have had tremendous success in our Sporting achievements with titles including 2010 - ISA Under16 National Netball and Rugby Sevens Champions.
We offer a Curriculum Enrichment Programme that provides the students with a wide variety of activities to extend and develop their skills, knowledge and experience beyond the restraints of the curriculum. Such activities would include The Duke of Edinburgh Award, Ten Tors, Beginners Arabic, Beginners Mandarin, Careers Support, Film Appreciation, Astronomy, and The School Newspaper.
Music and Arts provision is excellent. Our musical ensembles and concerts are not to be missed, and are performed both in school and within our local community. Art is highly regarded in the school and the pupils’ talents can be found in every corner of the school and its grounds. A highlight of our year is the School Show. This involves students from across all sections of the school and never fails to impress with the showcasing of so many students’ talents.
Students in the Senior School are at a major point in their lives where decisions are made that could shape the rest of their lives. At GEMS Bolitho School we provide a strong team of staff to help guide and support our students through this difficult stage of their careers. Our team of experienced tutors, academic mentors and classroom teachers are all there to offer advice and guidance to our young people. We also provide a structured careers programme including guest speakers from a wide variety of occupations and a weeks compulsory work experience. Our Peer Mentor Programme also provides opportunities for students to offer their skills, interests and time to helping those younger than themselves.
At GEMS Bolitho School we believe strongly in an experiential education for all. We offer many opportunities for students to extend their knowledge and understanding of the world, outside of the classroom. Regular trips take place in Cornwall, the United Kingdom, Europe and beyond. Whilst some of these trips complement the curriculum, others are simply for fun. However, all experiences help to develop the students’ independency, cultural awareness, knowledge and self-confidence.
The Senior School plays a crucial part in a student’s journey towards Higher Education and employment. At GEMS Bolitho Senior School we equip our young people with the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to succeed in life.
