Nursery and Pre-reception

GEMS Bolitho Early Nursery

At GEMS Bolitho Early Nursery our aim is to provide quality childcare in a bright, stimulating and caring environment where all children feel safe and secure.

The nursery is open from 8.00 until 17.45 Monday to Friday, 51 weeks of the year giving parents/carers the option of wrap around care and flexibility.

The ‘Sunflower Room’ where the under 2's spend most of their time, has the full requirements for their needs. We keep a detailed diary for all children under 1 of each day for parents to take home every time they collect their baby. Communication Diaries are provided for all children afret their first birthday. That way parents know what their babies have done, who they did it with and when they did it!

A fully equipped nappy area has a variety of mobiles and toys provided to entertain the babies during changes.

There is a designated sleeping area for those children needing a nap and a regular check is made every 10 to 15 minutes on these children.

All of the staff are qualified and experienced in childcare and development, regularly attending the relevant courses to keep up to date with the ever changing requirements needed.

We pride ourselves on catering for every child’s individual needs.

GEMS Bolitho Early Nursery is registered to offer the education grant to all 2, 3 and 4 year old children entitled to claim fifteen hours of childcare per week during term time.

Working in line with the early years foundation stage, ensuring all seven areas of the curriculum are planned for. These areas are split between the prime and specific areas:

Prime

Personal, Social and Emotional development

Communication and Language

Physical Development

Specific

Literacy

Mathematics

Understanding the Worls

Expressive Arts and Design

This is to allow all children to actively learn, play and ecplore, creating and think critically.

Pre-reception

The pre-reception room offers 3 and 4 year old children exciting and educational learning opportunities covering all seven areas of their learning and development, we cover these areas in many different ways, for example:

  • Small group time

This is where children of a similar age/stage of development work with their key person to complete a short planned activity. The adult starts with what the child knows and can do, and then plans to progress their development.

  • Circle time

We make this as exciting as possible, encouraging children to sing, dance, play games and both tell and listen to stories and rhymes using a variety of puppets and props. This time allows children to develop their confidence and self-esteem.

  • Outdoor environment

We recognise that the outdoor learning environment is as important to children’s learning and development as the indoor environment, therefore we give children plenty of opportunity to enjoy the open spaces, fresh air, freedom and natural beauty that our setting has to offer in a safe and secure environment.

The pre-reception children go to their classroom at approximately 8.30 daily, returning to the 'Daisy room' at approximately 16.00 ensuring good interaction with the nursery department, the Reception class and years 1 and 2.
